My Second Reflection

Hello everyone !

Today I am planning to finish my second reflection which I haven't done yet. Hehehe.  I find that today is very beautiful day because after so long KL is raining and the weather is slightly better than before. I feel less warm today in hostel. Okay ! Lets proceed. Today my reflection two is about the misapplication of group discussion. As we all know group discussion always be done during classes that were given by our teacher to complete a task. It is also an interview process where a set of people are given a topic to present their views on the topic to reach to a conclusion in favor of or against it. But we also know that sometimes we misuse it for other purposed.

As you can see, this picture above tells everything what really happening in a group discussion. Firstly the misapplication of group discussion is the one person that always dominate the group and never give another members to speak out. By dominating the group they can not tell their points and fear of talking because they feel that their point are in relevant. This dominating group will interrupt the group discussion while others member trying to explain their point. And this will make the discussion uncompleted and maybe they will lose some important information. We shall give other member in the group to talk and give their views. However,  misapplication of group discussion can be gossiping also. They will tend to gossip more than having discussion. Others who find that the discussion  very bored will tend to gossip and never relate to the topic of discussion. This discussion are more in gossiping rather than having group discussion. Poor communication  skills can also be the misapplication group discussion. When our communication is bad we tend to keep quiet and will talk less in group discussion. This will never help us in giving ideas in group discussion and it will never be a successful discussion. We might have little point as well. Having good communication skills in members can help the group discussion to discuss the topic clearly and have many points as possible. This is the few misapplication of group discussion.

That is all from me now, hope to share my next reflection real soon :D

My First Reflection

Hello everyone !

Today I was given a task to do my reflection 1 on our previous discussion with Madam Ng. Our Assignment 1 is our " Blog". So we have to post all the activities in here. As the last discussion we were divided into 3 groups and were given different topics on school of thought. There are three main school of though which is  Cognitive approach, Humanistic approach and Behavioral approach. Our group have to present about humanistic approach and my task was given by my group is to find the theory of the model in humanistic approach. Humanistic approach focused on hidden internal experience and emphasis the role of feelings into learning experience. One of the model is Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of human needs.

Maslow's hierarchy of human needs

There are a lot of advantages in humanistic approach for students in school. It increase their achievement in academic and also improve their learning. After presenting on humanistic approach. Our lecture told us to identify  2 negative points of humanistic and I have to suggest how to counter the 2 negative items. Firstly the negative of humanistic approach is groups. In humanist approach, classroom puts emphasis on the individual and students spend much of the time in class working in groups. This tends to lead students to discuss matters unimportant to the topic at hand. Besides that it leads to extroverted students monopolizing the discussion and giving a large disadvantages to more introverted student. And this will discourage the students who are low achievement feel embarrassment in the group and they will tend to keep their talent and performance with them and will not voice out their opinion.
However, lack of competitiveness can be the negative point in humanistic approach. It is because humanistic approach focus on individual development, the idea on competition is dis-emphasized. The result is that students learning from humanistic approach are less competitive compared to students learning in traditional schools. And students will not lead to better performance once they graduated and enter into workplace or university.
To overcome this negative approach teachers plays a big role in guiding the students. Teachers shall see students performances and also guide the students which is low in academic performances. And she must encourage all students to take part and voice out in the  group activities and not even one students left out. Besides that, Academic competition is a must for students because it can encourage students to work harder on their studies and help them get excited about academic content. They might retain more as they prepare for quiz, spelling and standardized tests. Teachers often use team-based competitions to make academic more interesting and engaging. However, even teachers can method such as rewarding in encouraging students to performance better in the task and  perform more better in the next task.

I am 21 years old this year and my hometown is in Ipoh, Perak. To pursue my dream in becoming a teacher I decided to take Bachelor Of Education (Hons) in Unitar International University. Even it is far away from my hometown and my parents almost 2 hours 30 minutes and 183km far. I still determine to study in this university to become a successful and a holistic teacher. Now I am in semester 3 in education course and I have decided to take Language and Literature as my major course. I will like to better my english and my grammar by taking this course.

This is my picture of myself:)
And I also will like to thank Madam Ng for asking us to make a blog for Pedagogy subject. This is the first time I am making a blogspot for myself. I find it interesting because I can share some reflection topic about what I feel and how much I understand on it. Before taking this course, I was studying in secondary school in Smk Main Convent, Ipoh, It have been almost 11 years I am in girls school. Than later I continue my education in Smk St Michael, Ipoh in Form Six. Even STPM was tough but i find it interesting because of the school environment and also the teachers in the school was great. They was so helpful and always inspire us to be a better students. I always love their advises and motivation that always inspire me to be like them. This give me a good impact to myself to become a teachers and share knowledge like them to students. Below here is a picture when i  am in From Six.

However, I have passion in "Arts". Arts is always connected to my heart and it bring me peace when I am alone, or sad. I always wanted to be an arts teacher because I love arts so much but I find that it is not a good choice. My teacher use to say to us that "Sometimes in life, you can not get what you want" the most important is "What you need ". I find that becoming a Language teacher can open so many chances in job field wider compare to arts. But I will never give up with my talent and arts. Maybe it will be useful to me one day and I am really sure about it. Good luck to me in chasing my dreams !! : D
